KAT Industries, Inc.
KAT Industries, Inc., an Oklahoma City-based fabrication shop, received a contract valued at $153,698 from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to provide processed steel. The award came just a few months after Acquisition Specialist Marianne Swager helped it complete its System for Award Management (SAM) registration and enroll in the Simplified Acquisition Program.
Ice credits US Federal Contractor Registration, the world’s largest third-party government registration firm, and his acquisition specialist, Marianne Swager, for working with him and his company and making sure they were successfully registered, had the information they needed, and had answers to their questions when they asked them.
“Marianne was very informative and available when we needed to speak with her directly,” Ice said. “She was very helpful.”
Swager said that it’s not unusual for companies to wait between six and 12 months after completing their SAM Registration to win a government contract, though she’s worked with clients who receive contracts days after their Registration is complete.
“It all depends on what contracts are available, how aggressive the company is, and how much work they want to put in. A lot of companies think that all they need to do is register, and then the contracts will just start to happen, but it doesn’t work like that,” said Swager. “Companies have to market their business and stay on top of available opportunities. That’s what KAT Industries did, and it paid off for it.”
Pyramid Technologies, LLC
Providence Forge, Virginia-based Pyramid Technologies, LLC landed a $125,000, one-year contract with the Navy to provide propane to several Navy sites in Maryland and Virginia.
This one-year contract is the first Pyramid Technologies – a logistics and IT company – has won since becoming registered in the System for Award Management, though it has worked as a subcontractor with prime contracts on several projects over the past few years.
“Subcontracting allowed us to get our feet wet so to speak and prove what we’re capable of delivering,” said Pyramid Technologies Principal and CEO Herb Jones. “It also helped us gain necessary past performance, which a procurement officer wants to see when awarding contracts.”
Jones, a retired US Army logistics and acquisition officer, has experience with federal contracts and the contracting process from the government perspective. Since his retirement, he has been on the other side of the process so winning contracts was uncharted waters. Only after working with US Federal Contractor Registration – first Rod Johnson, his acquisition specialist, and then John Wayne, his personal bid trainer – did Jones get the tools and techniques he needed to identify, draft proposals for, and successfully bid on contracts.
“I’ll be honest — this was a new ballgame for me, and it’s all thanks to US Federal Contractor Registration, especially John Wayne, that I not only won this contract but am confident that there will be others awarded to us in the future,” said Jones. “John is a godsend. He possesses a great deal of knowledge and is willing to share and teach – and he has the patience of Job.”
Eamon Chase, Inc.
Eamon Chase, Inc., a service-disabled veteran-owned general contracting company in Milton, Florida, received a contract worth $86,307 from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The contract calls for the company to remove the existing roof of an office at J Percy Priest Lake in Nashville and then replace it with a new roof.
The award came just about one month after the company completed its System for Award Management (SAM) Registration with US Federal Contractor Registration, the world’s largest third-party government contracting firm, and enrolled in the Simplified Acquisition Program via Acquisition Specialist Marianne Swager.
Swager, for her part, said that Eamon Chase, Inc.’s contracting success is “rewarding” and shows what a company can accomplish when it completes its SAM Registration correctly, puts together a high-quality capabilities statement and list of past performance, and demonstrates exactly why the government should award it a contract.
Wyatt Management received a $41,107.62 contract from the U.S. Air Force in August 2016 to replace flooring in several rooms at the Air Force headquarters in Lackland, Texas.
“Receiving the notification of award was a really big day for us at Wyatt Management,” said Brian Campbell, the company’s Government Services Project Manager, “and we are very excited about beginning this aspect of our business.”
Campbell attributes the company’s contracting success to training it received from US Federal Contractor Registration, which included developing a list of federal contacts, navigating fbo.gov, and learning how to best manage its resources effectively as opposed to blindly pursuing each contract that they might be able to fulfill.
“USFCR, our acquisition specialist Justin Jones, and our trainer, John Wayne, II, made sure that our company’s certifications and registrations were accurate,” said Campbell. “They made themselves available throughout the process, and were available to give us guidance when we needed it.”
